Community Based Rehabilitation Service

In Nepal, having a disabled child is a social stigma and often results in the family being ostracised by the community. To be dislocated from one’s community in Hindu society is to be denied any meaningful role in life. As a result, disabled children are often hidden away and neglected. CBRS works with and for disabled children and their families, aiming to help the disabled live as normally and independently as possible.

CBRS brings awareness of disability issues to local communities and supports and encourages children affected by disability and their families through education and physiotherapy programmes, by supplying mobility aids and by supporting income generation projects. CBRS is based in Pokhara and works mainly in Kaski and Syangja districts. More recently, CBRS has been involved with the training of staff from other non-governmental and government organisations so raising awareness of disability issues on a national basis.
